Introduction

History

Registered on 8 August 1968, the formation of Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Berhad (KSM) was initiated by then MCA Youth Chief Tan Sri Dr. Lee San Choon with the primary objective of pooling resources of the small men to establish a co-operative society whereby members could help one and another through the co-operative principle of “One for All and All for One”.

The membership is open to all Malaysian citizens of age 18 years and above regardless of race, religion or political affiliation. As a legal entity, Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Berhad KSM is regulated by the Co-operative Societies Act 1993 and the Regulations made under the Act as well as its own By-laws and Rules. The Management is vested in its Board comprising 15 members elected by delegates at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

KSM is authorized to carry out all businesses and activities that are beneficial to its members as provided under its By-laws. As a co-operative society, its operations and activities are based on the co-operative principles and spirit of “One for All and All for One”. KSM holds 2 major events, Annual General Meeting and Area Meeting. The Annual General Meeting is attended by Delegates.

The Area Meeting is being held 2 years once in compliance with KSM By-Law and in accordance with Rules 17(5) of Co-operative Societies Regulations 2010 under Co-operative Societies Act 1993 (Amendment) 2007 [Act 502].

Businesses

Taxi Operation

The taxi operation contributed an income of RM136,080 in 2015. This operation remains as one of the steady income source for the Koperasi. Currently, there are 8 vacant permits for registration.

Bintang tinjar II Plantation

The Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Berhad Board plans to develop an 8,000 acres Oil Palm Plantation within 2 to 3 years. The plantation will be divided into 16000 units (half-acre per unit). Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Berhad KSM then plans to sell 6,000 units to Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Berhad KSM members for investment. Each half-acre unit is RM8,800, and the plan will be carried out within 2 years, with 3000 units opened for sales each year. Members could benefit from this project via a return-of-investment structure.

Housing Development

The Kuantan Housing Project will be launched soon. Phase 1 (30 units) is a Double-Storey Semi-D. The project will start after the plan is approved by the Kuantan City Council (MPK). Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia Berhad KSM members from Pahang will be given preference to purchase at a special price. This is KSM’s first housing development project since 1997. Phase two and phase three of the project will follow suit.

Insurance

KSM Insurance Plans cater to the insurance needs of members in three main areas namely medical insurance (PA) plan and general insurance which covers motor, fire and hospitalization.

Logistics Investment

Nilai Shop Office

KSM has acquired 12 units of 3-Storey Shop Office at Nilai, Negeri Sembilan for long-term investment.
